On September 3, a highway maintenance worker was involved in an accident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Montgomery County. According to officials, the injuries that the worker suffered are not life-threatening.
Pennsylvania State Police commenced an investigation into the 11 a.m. incident. Reportedly, the maintenance worker was hit by an eastbound tractor-trailer around mile marker 327, which is near Valley Forge. Purportedly, the worker was standing on the side of highway when the accident occurred.
Authorities reported that the tractor-trailer involved in the incident remained at the scene. It was not immediately clear whether police planned to file any charges or issue any citations in relation to the accident. Many of the details regarding the accident were still unclear during the immediate aftermath of the event.
Despite the many safety precautions that employers put in place, accidents may still occur, resulting in workers’ injuries. People who do suffer injuries on the job may be eligible for workers’ compensation benefits, through which workers may receive help with not only medical expenses but also lost wages related to their injuries. In order to qualify for workers’ compensation, the employee’s injury must have occurred on the job. Moreover, it is necessary that the injured employee visits an employer-improved doctor within 90 days of the originating accident.
